San Francisco Portrait Photography: Around the states, and home again.

Monday, August 20th, 2012

To say I had a summer to go down in the the record books would be an understatement (link to my Facebook business page for photos here). I was blessed to not only have my girls, a Vanagon, a husband when he could be there, and many, many friends in our 9000 miles trek, but I was also blessed to see some clients I adore along the way. More on our X-country journey later.

Jenna and Mark have been in my life since I met them in Skippack, PA to talk about their wedding.  We were a perfect fit and I adored their wedding, their style, their family and their friends.  They are magnificent.  We followed that up an amazing Trash the Dress to follow. And now you know what comes next–the baby bump. Jenna, always gorgeous, is stunning in pregnancy as well.

And how lucky am I that I followed this family from DC, where we met twice, to their new home in NY, close to where we visit Camp Cottage Crayton on Conesus every summer. These kids make my day. Zoe is a total crack up and Max has caught up.  They are forces in the best way.

I showed up just in time for a freaky rain storm. We ran outside to get a few pics, but that ended quickly. Inside for some play and downtime and playtime.  Adorable!

Maryland Maternity Photography: Go Get ‘Em!

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011

Oh Adia! I am so glad you looked me up to take photos of you. Though we haven’t touched base since your wedding years ago, I couldn’t help but to remember that incredible joy that comes right on out of you. You have the *best* smile–it bubbles up in you…

You have one LUCKY baby on your hands–he/she is blessed being born into this caring, joyful family.

DC Family Portraits: Times Two

Thursday, January 20th, 2011

January is proving, yet again, to not be so slow. On top of building two gorgeous wedding albums, one coffee table book, one First Year album and a wall collage, I have plenty of families wanting to get their moment to shine and am shooting my first elopement at the Inn at Little Washington this Saturday (I am so excited for this). I have a couple of new toys I purchased as well. I love my 5D Mark II and my new Cheetah (light) stand. The Cheetah Stand is the best, best, best  thing around.  Let me give that guy/girl a big hug, and a $100.  THANK YOU!  You made lighting easy.

Penelope is about to welcome a new baby to her family. Jenn looks beautiful, and shining as always.  Penelope isn’t quite two years old, and having met her when she was so, so little she is getting so, so big! She is adorable, sweet, silly and must have the darndest stickiest bottom around:

Griffin (I love this name–we would have named our boy Griffith, had we had a boy, that is) and Caroline are so much fun, and such little handfuls of energy and love. I remember my kids at this age. I was exhausted, and felt a little underwater in general. So when I showed up for our 9AM I completely related to the kids in their jammies with runny noses, and Griffin just in the mood for some cartoons (photographer schmofographer). I remember it so well!

But these types of sessions work out beautifully. It gives me a little time to take the kids to their rooms and play, very relaxed, while the parents catch up. And it’s always nice to have another person in the house keeping the kids busy and giggling:

“Hey Griff. Really, the photographer isn’t so bad. You don’t need to hide under the bed!”

Washington DC Family Portraits: Happy December!!!

Thursday, December 9th, 2010

Every year I am under a lot of pressure to come with a memorable holiday card.  Every year I am told “I can’t wait to get your card!  It always my favorite.”  The pressure!   Three years ago I caught Bella choking Lisee as they lounged in their best holiday attire.  Two years ago I had the perfect very close-up portrait that showed them exactly they are.  Bella looking all sparkly-eyed and sassy.  Lisee looking like she had better things to do.  And last year I was totally stumped, and then it snowed.  My lightguy (husband) held the lights as we got a perfect picture of the girls in the snow.  This year I decided on our own version of American Gothic, which didn’t work out.  It was FREEZING, my lights kept blowing over (broke an umbrella), and the kids were not happy with it.  After 10 frames, I headed inside to thing of something new.  And I finally sent my card in for printing today.  It is pretty priceless–the kids love it.  I’ll post it after the holidays.

But here is our outtake from American Gothic (OK, but not good enough):

Abby & Josh called me excited for a maternity session.  They had to come out my way since they are under construction, and the day was perfect for a little bit of outdoor shooting (and some indoor).  They are absolutely adorable together and I can tell are going to make beautiful, loving parents.  It’s written all over them–their happy faces, their sweet demeanor and loving gentleness with each other.

Oh Sophie.  Seriously.  Could you be any cuter?  I met Sophie as a newborn, then at six months old, and now we rounding it out at just over a year.  Dan and May are so in love with their happy little muffin.  I am too–she is really, really sweet!

Dan and May are planning on making an album of the sessions, which I am excited to get started on.  It will be so, so good!

Northern Virginia Photography: All right here in Great Falls

Friday, November 19th, 2010

After much encouraging from my previous model Marlo, Gaby decided to let me get her belly shots before her delivery in the next two weeks.  Eva is already estimated at 8 pounds (holy cow)!  Gaby looks beautiful, as always, and she played right along and together we got some gorgeous images in her little afternoon session.

Jacqui, Alex, and I have done our little sessions for four years now (really?). We love this family, in so many ways. Gracious. Giving. Real. They are wonderful, and we are blessed to have them in our lives.

A few years ago over a busy girls dinner, Jacqui asked me to do some images for her family, including some that were black and white with just little red highlights (AKA spot-coloring). Catching me on a bad day when I was obviously feeling a little under appreciated and stressed, I let her know I don’t do that cheesy %#% and she obviously doesn’t get what I do. Of course, I apologized and compromised with some desaturation and sepia toning. We continue to have a good laugh at it.

Leaning more traditional, I try to throw in some fun. I think they will like it!
