DC Pet Portraits–Vishi and Lisa–A True Love Story

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Vishi is Lisa’s first baby. He is sweet, lovable, and the most camera shy pup I know. He gently gave me his cheek when he realized I turned the camera on him. Unfortunately, he has advanced cancer.

Having recently received the surprise diagnosis, Lisa asked me to come by while Vishi could still feel well enough to enjoy himself and go for a walk and play. I’m so happy I could be there for her.

Wedding Albums: Done! The last 2009 album is out!

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Happiness is checking off that last to-do on a client contract and going to the Outer Banks for the weekend. I sent out a Brian and Jenn’s gorgeous album yesterday and we hit the beach for the weekend. The wind and thunderstorms didn’t stop us from loving it. On Saturday we watched a whale feed right off shore for 15 minutes. I sat and let my eyes and heart take it in, taking it as a once in a lifetime experience. Cool weather, wind, and frigid water temperatures didn’t stop the girls from playing in their bathing suits either. To be a kid… And there is nothing like having the beach to yourself. It was the perfect weekend to go.

And one more little note, I got a new lens! A 100mm 2.8 that I can do some macro shots with. I gave it a little test on my favorite flower–lily of the valley.

Oakland Wedding Photography: He crushes it!

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

Mark gave the best vows ever. He CRUSHED it. So I may be a little biased, because I know Jen and love her too. But I feel like I know her better through his vows, and through the eyes of someone that appreciates her so much.

Jen knew they would be all about her. She just knew. I ask, “Did you talk about what you are writing?”

“No.”

“Then how do you know they will be all about you?”

“Because I know him. They will be.”

And they were. My heart jumps at how much he gets her, and loves her. It is exactly what she was looking for–a partner and friend that understood her, knew her, and l-o-v-e-d what he saw. He loves Jen for everything she is (loving and kind, foul-mouthed and flirty, rowdy and goofy), for everything she loves (no-hitters, Rush and brown liquor), for everything she does (sleeps like she is dead) and everything she will be as the mother to their baby. And she loves him right back. They are each other’s favorite person.

I did not shoot their quaint ceremony and reception. I put away my camera and watched, cried, laughed and celebrated. But I did take one camera, one lens, and one small compact flash card to California and brought them with me for the day and half we spent together before the quiet ceremony at their home.

She shows me her dress. “It looks good, right?” Stunning!

I get my camera when everyone, but the lone cleaning person, has left.

and then Jen re-reads her vows. They are perfect.

DC Birthday Party Photography: Coop is 1!!!

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

It’s not often I get to go and shoot a sweet one-year birthday party. Cooper celebrated with close family and friends at their home in Silver Springs. Very casual. Very sweet.

Cooper decided to skip his morning nap. But instead of being a boy that breaks down, he just rubbed his eyes, cuddled a little, looked a little sleepy now and then. And then he went to bed before his guests left, like any proper guest-of-honor should do. ; )

DC Portrait Photography: One Yummy Boy

Monday, April 12th, 2010

Hoping to catch the tail end of the Cherry Blossoms, I met up with Tom, Sarah, and John for some play at the FDR Memorial.  It is such a cool location, even if most of the blossoms had come and gone.

Sarah was a champ!  It was uns(r)easonably hot,  and is due next month.  But played, posed and chased down her boy with grace.   I know I didn’t have as much grace when we moved to NoVA in April 2004 to 90+ degree weather and I was only 6 months pregnant.  Ugh.

Here’s a sneak peak:
